I'm using the free VMware server from to run Solaris 10 on my XP Home system.

I've got VMware workstation on my work laptop, and the free VMware server on my home machine. I have a Solaris 10 virtual machine on an external USB drive, which runs equally well on both systems.
The free VMmare is excellent for this type of thing, and in my opinion is just as good as the paid for workstation version.
