Windows back up utility has encountered a problem

I get the error below everytime I and cannot run the backup utility:

"Windows back up utility has encountered a problem and needs to close"

any suggestions appreciated

Take a look in the Event Viewer. Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer

It should give you a more detailed error message, post that back here and hopefully we will be able to diagnose the problem better.

Check the status of the "COM+ Event System" by doing a Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

It should be started, and set to Automatic at startup.

Event viewer reports:
End backup of C Warnings or Errors encountered.
Consult the backup report for more errors.

The backup report had no information about the error.
