I picked up an older machine at a show. It's running windows 98 but which edition, the original or second. It seems pretty basic, I know, but where do I look for the this info? Will the Version # tell me which edition I have? Is there a cut off # between 1st and 2nd editions?
I even have two OEM CD's but they look identical yet I think they are differant versions.

The CDs will have "Second Edition" written on the right side (if facing the proper way) if they are 98 SE.

Right-click My Computer, press Properties. It'll say either:

1) "Windows 98 - 4.10.1998"
or
2) "Windows 98 Second Edition - 4.10.2222A"

Hope that clears it up.

Look at the date of the setup file on the CD. Original 98 was May 98, later version was Nov 98, and SE was in 1999.
