The easiest way would be with a Router.

You can also share the internet from the XP machine. Of course the PC's would need to be networked which means buying a hub, and if you're going to buy a hub, just by a router and do it the easy way.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

does your Win98 computer has a network interface? Try to find the proper driver for Win98.

Using a router is the easy way to connect more than one machine to Internet. The "internet sharing" that comes with Windows may not work properlly on your Win98 machine. Do not try to install it.

Best way is via a router - but you can use XP's ICS (Internet connection Sharing) and you don't need a hub, just a crossover ethernet cable (though you may need 2 NICs in XP machine - depending if internet connection is via ethernet or USB).

Just enable ICS on the connection on the XP machine - don't create the floppy disk and run on 98 machine - just set 98 machine to pick up IP address automatically, and all should be well.

But as said at top - router is best, and they're not expensive nowadays (especially cable wired ones, eg As was also mentioned, you will need a network card in the 98 machine.

What is telewest internet?
Cable Internet or what?

If you just run the TELEWEST into a Router that is the best bet. I am pretty sure even with older Win98 you can still do networking.

With a Router, the router acts as a computer that connects to TELEWEST INTERNET. Then the router controls sharing that with your local network.

How is the XP Machine Connected?

You dont need any special connection software to connect a computer to a router. It is all built in already. The router controls the networking through DHCP and assigns each computer its own Local Network IP automatically. The older the Oper System the harder it is to configure.
