When installing Windows 98 SE from the CD or the harddrive, will not install. Installation hangs after initial "copying of setup files" or after receiving the following error message, "True Type Fonts detected." After receiving error message, attempts to use "setup" command causes system to default to "D:\" or "C:\" prompt respectively based on install location.

Hard drive condition is formated along with "fdisk /mbr."

Additional note: Same condition exists when attempting to install Windows 95. %-(

Let's see where you are and what you have done to prepare your disk for the install. Fdisk/mbr? why? Did you have a virus? Did you fdisk and repartition the drive or merely format? Please post details of your system and what you have done so far. If this is a new hard drive you have to fdisk and set up the partition(s) and set the Primay Dos partition to active before you then format. You have to reboot after the fdisk and after the format before you can install.

I am signing off for the night, but hope you will post more details so that someone else can pick this up. I hope you get this resolved. Good luck.

dowload (from someone else machine ;( , ) a copy of the ultimate boot disk, boot with the ultimate floppy ensure you have only 1 ACTIVE partition among ALL your drives repartition reformat and that should do it
