I got my computer from Gateway with Win98 installed (about 3 years ago). I recently installed Win2k. I just tried looking for drivers for my keyboard because recently it's been 'freaking out'. Gateway web page says the keyboard is Win98 only...

'Freaks out' = I'm doing whatever and suddenly my computer thinks I have the shift key held down. No, caps lock is not on, but putting it on is a quick fix until I reboot.

I guess what I'm looking for is one of two things:
1 - Anything I can do to fix the problem? If not, that's fine. I just don't want it to get worse, which brings me to #2
2 - Anyone think it could get worse than just my 'eternal shift-key' problem? If so, I'll just go out and buy a new keyboard...it's not like they're expensive or anything. I just figured I'd post here for general knowledge if anyone knows about it.

Thanks

Sounds like the key is getting stuck. The older keyboards allowed you to take apart and clean. Some of the newer ones have electronic sensors and some still make cleaning easy (just depends and the board).

Best suggestion is take it apart and try... but make sure you dont need your system right away, because you will probably have go out to buy a new keyboard.

Should just on the chance the problem not be fixed with the purchase of a new keyboard... then the problem lies with the keyboard connecter. Though should the problem be there you would get repeating characters with all different types of keys, not just the shift.

Thanks. I did take it apart once before. Big mistake...does not allow for easily putting back together. Lining up the board and the plastic 'thingy' between the keys and the board was a major hassle. Could be that is the problem, but I didn't have any problems until I put Win2k on, and I took it apart back in December...so it look like I'm in the market for a new keyboard. Thanks for the suggestion though.
