hello all, i have a computer that has Windows 98 SE installed and the display settings only have 2 colors or 16 colors. the computer is a Compaq Presario 5461 and the monitor is a MV720. i reinstalled the monitor drivers but nothing happend. what could be the problem?

The problem is your graphics driver appears not to be loaded so your PC is running at default settings which are very low res and minimal colours.
You monitor may also be running on default VGA settings as it may not have detected the make/model or loaded the drivers properly.
If you right click on the desktop, press properties then settings, you should see the monitor make/model, the graphics adapter name, plus the resolution and colours that are being displayed "IF" the graphics adaper drivers are loaded properly and the monitor has been recognised correctly.

thank you for you help. i figured it out and it is what i should have done in the first place when all else failed. i opened the computer and looked for the graphics card on the motherboard. it was SiS (Silicon Intergrated Systems Corporation) 530. i looked for that driver whala, i have normal looking display. my monitor was on a standard VGA.

I'm having the same problem with my computer. And I did suspect it related to the graphics card. But my problem is that I couldn't locate the graphics card on the motherboard and I don't have any manuals for the manufacturers.
