Hi,

I have a user at my company with Windows 98. When he reboots his PC, he does not get prompted to log into our Windows 2000 domain. The PC simply boots right into Windows. However, if he chooses Log Off from the Start menu, it will "log off" and then show a login screen.

His network adapter, drivers, and protocols are set up correctly. I tried replacing his NIC to no avail. I removed and reinstalled TCP/IP, etc. I checked Microsoft TechNet but could not find anything even close to this problem.

I even opened policy editor to see if maybe someone set some funky settings to cause this but nothing there either.

Any ideas out there?
Thanks!
Phil

Is 'Client For MS Networks' selected in the 'Primary Logon' box in Control Panel/Network/Configuration?

Yes, Client for MS Networks is the primary logon. We also use Netware here (phasing it out) and even when I set that as the primary logon, it does not resolve it.

When he initially boots up, does he have access to the NW or only after he logs off/on?

The user has no access to the network until he selects Log Off from the Start menu. Only then is he given the log in boxes to login to our domain and the NW server.

Have a look at the registry info mentioned here thread615-583797

Removing the autologon key in the registry took care of this issue. Thanks so much for all of your help. This was a long standing issue with this user that three other techs could not resolve. You guys are the best.
