Hi all wonder if anyone can help.

We're running Dell GX240's with windows98 on. They run fine apart from when we go to close down and then they just freeze on the 'Shutdown' screen.

We know the problem is related to Virus software as they only start doing it after virus software is installed.

Software we're using in McAfee AVD 4.5.1

Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so do you know of a software fix available to overcome this problem.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

I know Norton will cause the same problem with the fix being to disable the a: drive scan .. Suggest you try that as well..

Right click on the shield on the task bar: select properties-system scan. Change all files to default files and uncheck ongoing files. Click on advanced and enable heuristics. Kind of drastic but it clears up problems with Mcafee.

Strangly enough each of your above 3 suggestions didn't work individually - I tried each solution on separated PC's, but a combination of all 3 seems to have done the trick
