Folks,

I have a computer with 95A and I would like to upgrade to 95B to use a Drive Image CD that I have, forthwith to transfer files to a newer computer. Is this upgrade still available, and, if so, how?

DO you have Windows 95osr2 with USB support to install? If so boot to a DOS prompt then cd to the c:\windows folder then do a del win.com
This will allow yo to replace the existing OS with a newer one without using an upgrade. James Collins

And I'd add that there was NO upgrade from Win95/95A to Win95B/95C, because Win95B and later had FAT32 available and was available only as OEM installations [support from the computer manufacturer, not Microsoft]. Win95B/95C does not have a FAT32 converter in it as Win98/98SE does.

Of Win95B or 95C, the latter was the 'best' for USB but still pretty much hit-or-miss. Win98 is much better.

If I was doing it, I'd put the money into a Win98/98SE upgrade.

Yeah, Win95A and Win95B require different licenses. In other words, Win95A was a free upgrade from the original release of Win95. However, Win95B was never a free upgrade to Win95A users.

B and C were part of the 2nd official release often referred to as OSR2. It was usually found preinstalled on OEM pc's, but it was also available for purchase at one time. ~cdogg

I agree, but I want to keep the stuff on the old computer. The alternative is to splice in another hard drive and copy to it. That may be my best bet.

If you know where I could buy it I would like to check it out. Thanks.

Check out for great deals on computer needs. I'd recommend this site to everyone. Full OEM version Windows 98SE - $64 Enkrypted
