I have a problem with Windows 95 users not being able to change network passwords on a Windows 2000 domain controller unless they use the "net password" command from a DOS prompt.
Using the Passwords icon in the Control Panel to change the Microsoft Networking password, or taking the option to change an expired password while logging on does not work. It gives an "access denied" error when you attempt to change the password.
This problem does not affect Windows NT or 2000 Professional users but affects all Windows 95 users. Using the DOS command is a workaround but no use when a password expires, because you have to log on first before you can change the password.
Can anyone suggest a proper fix for this?

Maybe install the DSCLIENT.EXE, that works for the same problem in 98.. Matt Wray

DSClient.exe is installed on all Windows 95 machines.

We had this similar problem only with one office, and that was because they were on a state system. Make sure the workgroup under the Identification tab is the same as your domain, and also the DNS domain is the same as your domain. This worked wonders for me. I think it was the Identification tab that wasn't set right. Bill Zielinski

Try this if you haven't already done so.

1. Ensure that you are using the Client for Microsoft Networks.

2. Ensure that the Clients properties are set to Log on to Windows NT domain... type your NT domain into the text field.

3. Hit OK and restart the system.

This should work providing you have configured a DC and are using AD.
