Hi all,
I am facing a strange problem.when users try to login to domain through a win95 or 98 machines they get a error saying "password incorrect or your domain does not have a valid user account" .but after trying for about 4 to 5 times they will be able to login. The same user doesnt have any problem logging to the domain using a NT or win2kpro machine.i would like to know is there anything i have to do in 95 and 98 machines. The domain is in Mixed mode.please help...

With Regards
Niranjan

try to remove the client from the domain (by placing it in a workgroup, with another name than the domain), reboot
rename the machine, reboot
name it back to the original, reboot
and then add it to the domain, reboot
and it should be solved I have not failed, I just found 10000 ways that don't work

Your problem is not with user account it is computer account.Try recreating(del-add) computer account and be sure to select "Allow pre-Windows 2000 computers to use this account".

Actually, it may have something to do with NETBIOS over TCP/IP .. do you have WINS enabled? Are you using DHCP? These are the components that can cause or fix a problem like this... first of all, disable browse master on all the 98 systems (file and printer sharing properties, if installed). Next, make your workstations still have client for ms networks, with the domain entered, but also use the pre-windows 2000 domain name (netbios) in the workgroup field. If that continues to fail, put netbeui (I know, I know) on the workstations and server... if it's a small network it's small cheese for your bandwidth. Anyways, you get the picture. If you're using ICS, remove it too.

If all else fails use an LMHOSTS file with the PDC predefined. Archaic, but it'll probably work.
