I recently installed windows 7 ultimate on a Toshiba A210 PSAFGC-FS308C Laptop. Everything works like a charm except for the sd card reader. It is a Ricoh card reader. Every so often a window pops up saying I have to format the sd card before I can use it. The problem is, there is no card installed.

When I go into my computer, it shows an xD-Picture Card with an assigned drive letter. It keeps wanting me to format a card even though one isn't installed. When I do install a card, it promps me to format it but when I try to do so, it fails. When I remove the card, it again pops up and tells me to format the card I just removed and it insists there is a card still present. If I use the safely remove hardware to eject the non-existant card it removes it but comes back again when I reboot. I have also tried uninstalling the card reader and tried installling the lates driver from the Toshiba website. Anybody ever come across something similar? Is there anything else I can try?

See if this is any help.

Thanks Sympology, I will give that a try and see how it goes.

Update driver??? Is there any SD card in a printer with an SD card slot in it???

I agree with Goom on updating the driver, below is a recommended way to upgrade the laptop...

How to Upgrade Toshiba laptops to Windows 7

you can also search for the W7 driver on the Canadian Toshiba support site (since your lappy seems to be a Canadian model)...

Thanks for the replies. I know that when I looked for the latest drivers for the laptop, it said to use the windows vista driver for the sd card reader as it is supposed to be compatable with windows 7. I ran the toshiba update utility and it doesn't find any out of date drivers so, not sure what the problem is.

can you go to the device manager, double click on the Card Reader, then navigate to the tab called DETAILS.

there is a drop down menu, choose HARDWARE ID... then note the VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx number down (xxxx stands for any 4 alpha-numeric code), post them here, and I will gladly find the latest driver for you... also post which architecture your Windows 7 Ultimate has (32 bit or 64 bit)...

and yes, normally Windows7 can use Vista drivers, there are times that when that does not function correctly... Specially if you update to Windows 7 from within Vista...
