If I install windows 64 bits... does my existing 32 bits apps work properly??

which win 64bits version is the last one?? and is there any service pack for the win 64bits version?

From the reports I've read, the programs may work, but there is a dearth of hardware drivers available yet. Also, when you install the Windows 64 bit OS, your rights to the 32 bit OS is removed. This looks like a problem if you can't run 64 bit OS, with no way to revert back to the 32 bit OS without buying another copy of XP 32 bit.

which is more stable?? Longhorn 64bits beta or XP 64bits??

What I want to know actually is which is the best solution for me....
I have a an Athlon 2800+ 64bits and with 512DDR and I want to know which is the best OS I could install.

sorry 4my poor english

You say nothing about what you do with your workstation. For most users at the present time installing XP Professional (32) with Service Pack 2 is the best choice.

The least viable choice is to install Longhorn 64 bit, pre-alpha from WinHEC. It is not a public release and decidedly not ready for prime time use.

This is only true if you use the trade-in program. As a general statement it is not true.

I use my workstation to work jeje

Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Corel, Illustrator, browsing.... emule ;-)
I have olso an apache and mysql server, lan monitoring tools, etc

i have several appz running simultaneously... i want they all to run at the best performance...
I also want my Athlon 64bits to be squeezed, i wanto to take adventage of all it´s features... but also i want stability and compatibility

Then stay away from eMule images of XP 64, and Longhorn 64.

why..??? they are all fake?? they don´t work properly?

I have no idea whether they work or not.
The releases you see of Longhorn builds at the moment are the WinHEC conference builds, and they are intended for driver development, no actual use. They are several crippled in aspects of the GUI and do not reflect Longhorn as a client at all. They were intended to develop and test new drivers, not to be used as a client OS.

I have no idea what is available from eMule for XP64, as it just was formally released two weeks ago. If you want to use a robust and solid OS, use XP Pro 32-bit now. If you want an illegal copy of XP64, with no support, and limited drivers, then use your emule. If you want a legal XP64 either buy one, or use the trade-in option. You still face very limited driver support, but at least you can access Microsoft support.

Thanks, Bill. As I was looking at the "Trade Up" option, that was the only one I was reading about (blinders?). I jumped on XP (pre-ordered), but I think I'll wait a while for 64 bit or Longhorn.
