Hey everyone,

Im.... well i guess you can say upgrading from windows 2k server adv to windows xp pro. This is our utility machine and we need to temp install win XP on it. it wont let me upgrade from server to xp pro. Im thinking of just booting to fdisk but doesnt fdisk have problems w/ NTFS? What about partition magik can i delete the partition w/ a boot disk? thanks for the input

If you have an XP cd, you should be able to boot to it, delete the partition and install fresh. Marc Creviere

FilthPig is correct. You should be able to boot to the CD. If not then fdisk will work fine as long as you are using a newer boot disk. You can dlelete the partition. But then you would still need to start the XP install. You an do this by cd to the CDROM drive and switching to the i386 folder and typing winnt.exe
This should start the XP setup. James Collins

So what is the diff between an upgrade XP and a Clean instal XP. Don't you neet some sort of upgradable system installed before you do the upgrade (Jeez I am tired - that english is bad!)

John..

For an upgrade you either need existing installed system or the install CD for a qualifying product (eg, win2k for winXP) - install process will ask for it if you don't start install off from within existing qualifying system.
