I have a brand new file server that is running Windows 2003 server. It randomly locks up. The screen is freezes on the screensaver and a control>alt>delete does nothing. You have to physically hit the reset button to restart. There are no error messages at all when the computer comes back up. The manufacturer has not been able to resolve the problem. It might be good for a day, a week, or a couple of weeks, but eventually it locks.

My question is this: What might you try to resolve this problem? Are there any diagnostic tools I can purchase or run that would help me monitor the computer to tell me the last thing it did before it froze?

Any help you provide would be greatly appreciated!

These sorts of things are almost impossible to diagnose without just pulling our bits of hardware and seeing if that solves the problem.

Your best bet, IMO, is to try and get the vendor to give you a new machine.

Bad memory will normally crash the machine instead of locking it, a bad CPU would also normally crash the machine.

A very uneducated guess would be the RAID controller is faulty as I've had them lock up machines in the past.
