Hi,

This morning we noticed that there was a corrupt disk in our raid array.

We quickly tried to rebuild the disk on the array, but later discovered it was a faulty Hd. We got onto dell and they are sending a replacement ASAP. - Which is fine.

However....

Now a lot of this seem to be wrong with our Windows 2003 SBS.

We seemed to have a corrupted our exchange .edb file, which we are now in the process of rebuilding using the (eseutil).

It apparently takes several hours, (we are into aprox hour 4, and 85% done).

The problem i am posting about it that nothing now seems to work as it did on the 2003 sbs, this could be to do with the exchange file, but it does seem more than that.

Starting up & shutting down the Server is a feat in itself.

Shutting down takes around 5 minutes and booting up takes around 15-20 mins!!!

when it booted up it states that one of the services could not be started. (i'll get the exact name of the service and post it in a moment).

when it eventually booted up, i log in (as the domain admin) and it then takes a further 5 mins to loads everything else (which before was done in a couple mins).

When i open the task manager it shows the sqlserver.exe app to be taking between 80-100% (mostly 100%, but it does switch down to around 80 ish now and again).

I stop the sqlserver (on the systray icon), and it stilll continues to run the sqlserver.exe.

no one can access internet (through ISA) and no one can log onto the domain.

I have come to the conclusion that somewhere along the line the disk corruption has somehow corrupted a few core files with exchange or sql server... of which it wont function properly without.

Here is my question (phew...!) :

does anyone know of a tool that we can restore to yesterday's windows 2003 sbs config (like a system restore in xp)?

or if there is a way of resetting sqlserver to its original form without re-installing the whole machine.

we do have data backups of the server, but the config was done by a msce pro, (of which i am, nor my team are not), i.e. we would find it difficult to replicate in a couple of hours.

What we really need is a "windows 2003 sbs diag tool" to tell us what is wrong....

Can anyone help? does anyone have any suggestions at all to what we can do or how we approach it?

any help would be appreciated.

many thanks

Ian

How are you doing with this? There are too many things going wrong for a single diagnostic tool to tell you the root of it. Your best tool is going to be the event logs, both Application and System.

Let me know if I can do anything to help you. You may need to employ some additional expertise to do a restore if that's what it comes down to.
