Hi
We have just recently purchased all the disks and licences etc to upgrade from NT4 to W2K on our server. But now I've been told that our server might not be able to manage W2K as it will be unbearably slow. We have a Compaq running 350MHZ processor. MS site says min spec is 150MHZ. Does anybody here run Windows 2000 Server on a similar spec PC and if so what is the speed like?

Thanks,
Caroline

If this is a single server with no others to back it up (help lighten the load) and you have more than 10-20 workstations and it is also a mail server and file server then you are going to need as much processor power, memory and disk space (and drives that run as fast as possible, 7000rpm is not fast enough, i dunno, possibly 14000rpm)as you can afford.

W2k probably will run on the current spec but i'd also say it would be unbarably slow.

Win2k really comes into its own with the best that you can buy for it (especially Win2kADVsvr, almost bullet proof).
