I'm currently managing over 200+ computers on the network. My company is in the process of upgrading some of the NT workstations to Windows 2000 and XP. The problem i'm having is that we have many employees that travel a lot and don't really have a workstation in the office. They quite often use any available machine they can get their hand on in the office. The issue arises when an employee logs onto a WIndows 2000 workstation, their roaming profile is converted to a windows 2000 profile. However when the user logs onto a Windows NT workstation, the same WIndows 2000 roaming profile is downloaded, and security access are popping up all over the screen on an NT station. Is there a registry key, or patch that i can use to clear a user's profile so that he can log onto both a 2000 or NT machine.

Best bet is to get shot of roaming profiles and move in to a customized default user and some Kix scripting Roaming Profiles= too much hassle and time. Njoy!

If you need to stick to downloadable profiles, then a small piece of scripting, via login scripts, could help by identifying the OS and then downloading the profile associated.

This could be done by setting up a 'dummy' profile that is downloaded to all PC's on boot that runs the script which in turn downloads the correct profile.

Whilst this is not an elegant or perfect solution, it's another alternative, which may just work in your environment.
