I now have Windows 2000 Prof. I want to upgrade to XP. The machine is used at home for home use not business. Should I put on a clean install of XP Home, or use XP Professional. I tried an upgrade of home and it would not work.
Thanks
JH

XP Home is not a valid upgrade for you.
Win2k Professional can only be upgraded to XP Professional.

Will everything from 2K Prof come over without any problems?

Consider the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard:

But note: with the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard the programs themselves do not transfer. If programs need to be transferred, only an XP Professional Upgrade choice is available to you.

And this requires a full retail copy rather than an OEM copy of XP Pro. See the discussion: faq779-4004

found this one. Is it the correct item to use. I really appreciate all your help. You've been great.

Microsoft Windows XP Pro Upgrade with SP2 Academic Version - Retail

Thanks again

That will work. A full retail (Academic if qualified) would also allow an upgrade installation.
