Hi zallen.
You have to reinstall win2k as administrator. [sig][/sig]

To be prompted for login, go to the control panel and double-click on "users and passwords".
Put a check mark in the box which specifies that "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
This should solve your problem.

Don't lock down W2K unless you have a real need for security. Windows 2000 is very secure, and if you should forget your password, you will lose pretty much everything on your hard drive.

I had a power outage that damaged some of the security SW in W2K, and when I tried to log in, it refused -- even though I was using my correct userID and PW. As it turned out, we were able (with the able help of a MS tech) to perform an in-place "upgrade" of the OS booting the PC from my original CD media, and got it running -- whereupon it did authenticate with the same userID and PW, but had I forgotten the PW or userID, I would have been out of luck.

Be very careful.
