Does anyone know of a backdoor way of getting into windows 2000. I'm in a catch 22 situation. I have a PC that I can not log on because no one knows the passwords. It used to be set up on a server but due to some server problems I am not able to connect to the Windows 2000 server without changing the computer name. I can't change the computer name beacuse I don't know the administrator password or any of the user passwords. HELP!!

If u have FAT32 then just try to boot from a Windows 98 bootable floopy and delete the SAM database file.

If u have NTFS on that then u need to get NTFSPro to enter into the hard drive thru bootable. After that u can delete the SAM database file.

After deleting the file, just reboot the machine and login as Administrator without any password.

As described previously, the Security Account Manager file may be the solution here. If Windows is installed on a FAT/FAT32 partition simply boot the system with a Windows 95/98 boot disk and search for a file called SAM. It's just called SAM, no file extension. It's most probably located in the \WINNT\system32\config directory. Rename the file to SAM.OLD then reboot. You can now login as Administrator and leave the password field blank.

If Windows is installed on an NTFS partition you will need a utility called NTFSDOS (probably version 5.0) to complete the procedure outlined above.

If the system has SQL Server or IIS installed on it this procedure will probably corrupt the Metabase and cause them to stop working. If all you need is to get data off the system then it will work fine.

Hope this helps.
