Hi there

Here is my scenario:

I have installed Windows 2000 and Windows 95 on the same PC ( dual boot). What I would like to do is, instead of Windows 95 I would like to install Windows NT server and make it dual boot with Windows 2000 server.

I tried to format my second partition ( Windows 95 ) but it will not allow me to do that.
Do I have to format the whole drive and install Windows NT server first and then Windows 2000 server?

Thanks,

Mav

First of all...if you Windows 2000 server is installed on the boot partitiona and is formated NTFS, you will not be able to dual boot (unless, you create a boot disk) Why you ask, NTFS on Windows 2000 is NTFS 5.0 and is not entirely compatible with NT 4.0. (If your 2000 machine is using FAT, your cool with the dual boot.)

This issue aside, boot your machine to Windows 2000. Now use Disk Management to delete (format) the D: drive. Once this space is empty, boot to the Windows NT CD-rom (or create the setup disks for NT) and install the OS on the D: drive.

You can also create a 95 boot disk. Boot to the 95 boot disk (make sure FORMAT and FDISK is on the boot disk) and delete the drive D: from the boot disk.

Special Note if this machine is going to run Active Directory then you have a problem W2K running AD must be NTFS 5

That means NT4 and win95 will not boot.

if you choose to install all three you must choose Fat16 because NT4.0 does not know FAT32 so you are limited to 2 gig partition.

so the install order is this

Win95 then Nt4.0 then W2K never choose upgrade prevouis version
