We use to have a Windows NT 4.5 SBS Server, and a Windows 2000 Member Server (Application Mode) that had 20 TS CALS loaded on it. Since upgrading to Windows 2003 SBS the TS License Server now has to be loaded on a Active Directory Server, not a member server, so the license server won't start on the 2000 Server now, and the error in the event viewer states that the TS can run for 90 days then needs a license server blah blah blah.
So since trusts don't work between the two, will the 2000 CALS work with the 2003 Server or do you have to get new CALS? Obviously have to call Microsoft to get new updated license codes but will that work before I call them?

Thanks.

With the temporary's work? yep. After 90 days you are hosed though.

A 2K license server will issue only the 2K licenses but the 2003 will issue either.

Yeah they had me setup the 2003 SBS License Server but now they (MS Clearinghouse) says i have to call my vendor, have them call MS, and get updated CALS for 2003 at no cost. Doesn't make sense to me since we are just using it for 2000 TS in application mode looking for a License Server.

Interesting to say the least.....

Yeah anyway i just decided to call back MS Clearinghouse, give them the old license numbers and explain why we need them reissued, and then they gave me new license key pack ids and away we go. The 2000 server found the 2003 ts license server and everything was back to normal.
