I've been having a problem with the Windows 2000 backup software, I had installed a new IBM server with a Seagate DAT SCSI internal device. I tried to set a daily backup to backup my exchange server along with all my other servers on the network, but I keep getting problems !!! I am well aware of the fact that Microsoft needs you to register your media in the RSM, which I did. My main problem is that if I leave in the same tape to perform the Daily backups it will work without any problems, but I want to change the media on a daily basis (ie: Mon, Tues, Wed ....) I went as far as setting up a two week set so I can have the week prior as a backup just in case as a procaution.
This is where the problem comes in, everytime I change the set of tapes from one week to the other it keeps crashing. Like I said I went to the RSM console and had all the tapes registered but the scheduler wants a specific tape from the previous week and then causes the backup to crash. I know if I set the backups to perform a manual backup it will indeed work. My main goal is to mkae this fully automated without any speedbumps.
I also wanted to verify if this could be a hardware issue, so I installed an external tape device (HP Surestore 6000) onto one of my servers and once again Windows was able to register the device without any complications. I set the RSM to register the new medias and then set a few test backups and worked without any setbacks. But when I set the automated backups with the tapes registered it doesn't work, same result as my IBM server.
Can anyone please point me towards the right direction so this backup will do exactly what its supposed to do.

Any response will be greatly appreciated

I havent used tape backups yet but if the backups are set as incremental then the backup would fail unless it had a file to compare it to to do the backup.Incremental checks and only backs up files that have changed.
This is a shot in the dark just a possibility.

Thanks Shovel204

I don't think Incremental backups are causing the problems, as I stated earlier I set them to just Daily backups (No Incremental or Differential Backups) it's related to the media and the RSM manager, it sees the media as a different set and then causes the backup to crash even though it's been registered and mounted.
