I recently did a clean installtion of Win2K. I have created a dial-up connection into the office server, running Windows 2000. When you try the dial-up connection, the modem at the office rings, but there is no handshake or connection. On the Workstation, it just says the modem is not answering. I've checked protocol and security, but can't find anyhting out of order. Other remote users can dial in and connect, but not this one machine. ANy suggestions?

In Network and dialup connections you need to click 'Make new Connection". You can then select 'Accept incoming connections' and configure it as you need to. You can also add users who have rights to use the Incoming connection.

I think it's fairly self explainitry once you get in there so I wont go into the detail.

Hope this gets you on your way?

Cheers

Horsehappy,

Do you happen to know if when you dial from the problem machine, the remote computer goes off-hook and presents a modem response? My guess it does, but your workstation reports that there was no answer; it does not recognize the handshake, etc. offered by the remote site.

Replace the modem in the workstation. When modems were an expensive item, one of the big expenses was the chips required to monitor line status. Anymore you can build a modem with a single chip for pennies to do the same chore -- but, they tend to have a nearly light bulb life to them.

Replace the modem.
