Hi everyone,

Everytime I start my computer, it display a selection menu i.e. Normal, Lagged, Safe Mode, Step-by-step etc. If I do not select anything, it will start in Normal Mode after 30 seconds. What I want to do here is to start my computer automatically in Normal Mode without waiting for 30 seconds. Anyone knows how?

Please help,

Could you show me your config.sys and autoexec.bat? Anything that loads before Windows itself does is defined there... allow thyself to be the spark that lights the fire

Edit the file MSDOS.SYS
In [Options] you may have a line
BootDelay=30 which generates the waiting for 30 sec.
If that is not the clue, look for a BIOS-setting.
It is NOT in autoexec.bat or config.sys as these
files are processed after the waiting has been completed.

Haslo and PAnderson,

Thank you for the help.

Haslo, when I get home, I will show you the Config.sys file. I am at work at this moment.

PAnderson, I remember I had tried to open the MSDOS.SYS, but it seems that the MSDOS.SYS is a program which could not be openned by other program. Shoul I open it in NotePad?I will try it again once I get home.

Thank you once again

Shukui

Edit MSDOS.SYS in notepad.
Find the line that reads:
BootMenu=x
Change whatever the x is to read 0 Thus:
BootMenu=0 (that's a zero).
Save it as "Msdos.sys" including the quotes!
restart. Cheers,
Jim

Haslo,

The content of my config.sys is below:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DEVICE=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.SYS /D:CDROM0

Comtech,

Your little magic word did do the trick. However, after I changed "BootMenu=x" from 1 to 0, it seems that I also lost some function, because even I hold the Ctrl key to restart my computer, it no longer displays the startup menu any more. Do you think I can restore the Window's original setting, i.e. if I hold the Ctrl key, it displays the startup menu, else, it starts in Normal mode automatically without the 30 seconds waiting period? Any input is highly appreciated.

Ta,

You can push F8 to bring up the startup menu at boot time...

Hey - PAndersen, you're right. Good old DOS s-) allow thyself to be the spark that lights the fire

Comtech,

Here is the current content of my MsDos.sys file,
