I have an Windows 2000 machine trying to joing an NT 4.0 server domain. I have other machine on the network running Windows 98 that are able to connect to the network. When trying to join the domain on the Windows 2000 machine I get an error "credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials" I am using static ip address. If any can give me information on how to fix the problem would really appreciate it.

It sounds like you've connected to the domain controller with one username/password (like for a shared drive resource), then are trying to join the domain with another username and password.

Try going to the command prompt and typing 'net use' - see what connections there are. Then go 'net use /delete \\server\resource' and remove any entries from the 'net use' list.

Once you have 'No connections', try joining the domain.

Alternatively, add the W2K Workstation name to the domain using Server Manager on one of your DCs, syncronize the domain, then add the W2K box to the domain without "Creating a Computer Account in the domain". This should also work (as you won't require a username/password, thus no conflicts).

Good luck. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

It is sometimes necessary to edit the LMHOSTS file on the W2K Client when connecting to an NT Domain.
