When booting up windows 98 SE, I get a blue screen before even getting onto windows that says: VxD dynamic link call from APIX(01)+00002E78 to device "33FC", service 3. Your windows config is invalid.
Can anyone tell me how to find the faulty hardware and/or repair the problem.
The systems ask me if I want to continue. When I say yes Windows load normally.

Thanks in advance for your help

SYMPTOMS
When you start Microsoft Windows 98, you may receive error messages similar to the following ones:

A Fatal Exception 0D has occurred at xxxx:xxxxxx in VxD APIX(01)
where xxxx:xxxxxx is a string of random characters.

-or-
Invalid vxd dynamic link call from apix(01)+ xxxxxxxx to device xxxx service 3
where xxxxxxxx and xxxx are strings of random characters.
These error messages may also be displayed when you attempt to install a new hardware device on your computer.

CAUSE
This issue may be caused by a damaged Apix.vxd file.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the System File Checker Tool to replace the damaged Apix.vxd file with the original version of the file that is included in Windows 98:

On the Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

In the Named box, type apix.vxd.

In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.

In the list of found files, right-click the Apix.vxd file that is located in the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder, and then click Rename.

Type apix.old, and then press ENTER.

Close the Find: Files Named Apix.vxd window.

Restart the computer.

Insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into your CD or DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent the Windows 98 CD-ROM from starting automatically.

On the Start menu, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type sfc.exe, and then click OK.

Click Extract one file from installation disk.

In the Specify the system file you would like to restore box, type Apix.vxd, and then click Start.

In the Restore From box, type the following line, and then click OK (where X is the drive letter of your CD or DVD-ROM drive):

X:\Win98
In the Save File In box, type the following line, and then click OK (where C is the drive letter of the hard disk on which you installed Windows 98):

C:\windows\system\iosubsys
Restart the computer, and then install your new hardware device.
