I am definately in over my head. I was able to format the drive and reinstall Win98 but now the display is all messed up (only 256 colors) and it only has 8 bit audio.

I don't know exactly what the setup was before but I had better display and audio.

I don't know how to determine what drivers I need to install.

The computer I am setting up does not have a modem so I can't do it automatically with a program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The correct drivers for the video should be on a CD, either for the video card, or the motherboard.
You normally go into display modification by start, settings, control panel, display, settings ,advanced, and change display device , browse for drivers.
Same thing for the audio.

But if all this is on the M/B sometimes you have to run an install program that is on the M/B CD.

This is a very old PC (5 years) and the only disk I have for it has been damaged and the drive won't read it.

Is there any other way I can determine the type of hardware I have and what drivers I can use for it?

The standard ones don't seem to be working.

Thanks.
