I've been given a PC that needs Windows 95 re-installing on it, but the owner has lost the setup boot disk. When I try a couple of mine, they do not have the CD ROM drivers attached, thus I cannot get setup to start. Is there a generic startup disk available or does anyone have any ideas?

No problem, make a Windows Start-UP Disk on another computer or download the Start-UP Disk creator files from somewhere like bootdisk.com.

Local:
Start> Settings> Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs> Its the last tab on the right.

Actually, the one from is much better than bootdisk, and contains a plethora of Cd-ROM drivers. Cheers,

Cheers Guys

Not sure if a Ball Pein hammer is big enough!!!

Will post comments on the sites you have suggested.

Does the Bios allow you to boot from the CDROM?
If it does, set this to be the first bootable drive, exit (after putting the CD in,)and away you go. When you restart the machine, dont forget to set the boot option back to C:, or you will find your machine will try to run the setup program again! If, at first, you don't succeed.......

hi i'm looking for win95 upgrade disk 1 the setup disk , as the one i had has been damaged

I'm trying to setup windows 95 on a laptop with no cd-rom. my problem is that the windows 95 disk 1 (not the boot disk) is crrupt, and thus cannot get the install started. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

at this point, find someone with that disk, copy it and keep it next to ur heart.

i dont know whats on it but i fear that is the only way and certainly the simplest way to get around the problem.

this is the only disk of the 17 that can be diskcopied with standard utilities. Cowboy has the right approach. Ed Fair
