My windows 95 box insists on looking on the floppy drive when a: is not selected, usually when using Explorer to find files on the hard drive or mapped network drive. It also tries to read from a: when doing file open from Excel, Access, Word etc.

This is fairly annoying as you can probably imagine !

If anyone has any idea why it should be doing this I would be grateful.

Jane,

You may wish to check your anti-virus software and see if it is set to scan the floppy drive (this is a common issue).
Then you may want to look at the programs in your startup file to see if they are pointing to a program in A:. Also if you are using shortcuts to get to Excel ect. check those and see if they are pointing to the A drive as well.

If none of these work let me know and we will move on from there.

Hello, JaneC.

I would invite you to take a look at my note posted to a recent thread for a complementary explanation.
