Win2k Server on a Laptop

HI,

I got me a new laptop, or rather a reasonably new one has come into the office. I want to install w2k Server onto it the thing is it only has one drive slot in it and whilst i have both the CD Drive and the floppy drive after i have gone through the 4 boot disks it does not pick up that i have switched the floppy drive out and put the CD Drive in...

So anyone know of a way to just instal from the CD without using the boot disks - kinda trying to avoid doing a network install at the moment

See if the Laptop will boot off the CD instead of trying to do the floppy install.

You may need to go into the BOIS settings and set the boot order to ATAPI device or CDROM.

W2K allows hotswoppable devices but these features are not avaible during the install process.

I did't thing that the install cd's were bootable hence the need for booting from the a drive or am i mising something ---

No cd's are bootable if your BIOS supports bootable cdroms

If machine does not, you have a problem because installing W2K without the cd is petty much impossible along with Win98, Win NT and so on.

The floppy install is used by folks that can not boot from the cdrom or have to create custom install scripts.

Go into your BIOS find where the boot order is located and change it to boot from CDROM.

To get into the BIOS you do the following
During th POST operation
press the Delete key, or F1, or F10 or some kind of key which it tells you during the post opration, saying something like "to enter setup press some KEY.

Once in the Bios navigate around and try to find where the boot order is located. I wish i could tell you but it is stored different places by different companies.
