I cant figure this out for the life of me. I think it may be some kind of hardware conflict?

In any case, when i turn on this computer the login an loading of win2k goes EXTREMELY fast. After im logged in, the curser blinks like it's on crack.

If i have a screen saver set to ten minutes, it pops on in 2. The clock is going so fast it takes about 10 minutes to get an hour on the clock.

It's an intermittent problem, as sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not.

I've asked TONS of people. Techs from businesses, schools, friends. EVERYONE.. and NO one knows what it could be.

PLEASE-O-PLEASE-O-PLEASE help me.. :-D

Thanks in advance!

Just replace the MB in that beast. I'm no electrical engineer, but for a problem like that, it's GOTTA be in the cicuitry. Something is getting too much power from somwhere. I don't know what's in the machine, but new m/b's aren't too outrageous.

Very strange! I suppose it could be that the chip which controls the clock on the mobo could be shot, causing this behaviuor. If no virus activity can be found ( I'm assuming that this has been looked at) You could try replacing the cmos battery and see if that helps. If a reinstall of the OS results in the same symptoms, then I would say you need a new motherboard.

Some more info... may or may not help. I bought a batch of 30 computers or so. Maybe seven of them had this problem. It's gone away on all the computers and hasnt come back, and HAD gone away on this computer, but it descided to rear it's head.

If i can boot the system and not have it be there at start up, it wont be there. Its like the problem decides wether or not to show up during the startup process.

The MB thing just may have some merit because i can definately see these guys buying seconds.

Thanks, and please let me know if you think of anything else.

it might be that you have bad solding on the quartz/chip for the clock signal. the certicut then swings free and can cause such a behavier.
have you tried a bios reset?

Bios reset.. yeah.. that's the ticket. No I havnt but will do that directly. Alas, the computer thats having the issue is one of our databasre servers.. yay!!

I'll post back with the info as to wether or not it worked.
Thanks
