I'm using this feature with the 'Dial on Demand' activated.
I use a notebook computer with a Wi-Fi card to access the internet via another computer's dialup connection.
Connecting & using works fine, but I can't get the dialup computer to disconnect unless I go to it & manually disconnect by clicking on the Dialup Internet connection & select 'disconnect'.
Isn't there an easier way? I would hope that there is an opposite of "Dial on Demand' that would hangup after I closed IE & OE, or perhaps some sort of command I could run on the notebook. I found the choices on the dialup computer to 'Disconnect if the connection may not be needed' and "Disconnect after 20 minutes of inactivity", but these didn't help.
I know it may sound petty, but making 10 trips or so per day to the other computer & manually hanging up is a pain. I use the phone line for incomming faxes as well as occasional voice use, so I can't just "leave it connected". I don't think it's a good idea to leave it on anyhow.
Any ideas?

Getting it to disconnect is pretty much impossible I believe, because so many programs actually want a connection to the internet in order to carry out various admin tasks (& possibly some spying for the conspiricy theorists ;)).

Windows will trigger this dial itself, as well as many other software programs, such as anti-virus, IM, etc...

You are therefore doing the right thing in manually disconnecting.

An alternate, is to use the 3rd part sharing program. This will give you much more control over teh connection, & you will be able to manually disconnect it. However, these programs themselves are flawed & I never found a satisfactory solution. I think make such a product... James Goodman
