Hi All,

I want to know if there is a registry key I can apply to all of our PCs so that the default location is our domain and NOT the local machine. As a tech analyst, if we do any work on a machine we work as the admin on the local machine. Since we don't usually know the users password on the domain we cannot change it back to their usual logon. We use Novell so the NT/2000 setting are "hidden" in an Advanced button......not something the average user knows about to change it from the local machine to the domain. What I ultimately need is a way to ensure that when we (techs) log off the local machine the PC will come back up with the domain field populated with our domain name as the default location.

Is there any way to do this with a registry key?????

Hi,
are you using the Novell-Client to logon or are you using the Windows Logon-Mask?
The Novell-Client has a registry key for the default domain.
It's the Key DefaultDomainName under HKLM\Software\Novell\Location profiles\Services\{1E6CEEA1-FB73-11CF-BD76-00001B27DA23}\Default\Tab3

Hi!!

Thanks for your suggestion. We use Novell, version 4.83 to log in to our network which also logs us into an NT network at the same time. This is the part that is stumping me. Your tip seemed to work before I logged off (our domain appeared as I typed it in lowercase). Then I changed the default location to the local machine and logged off. When I came up again it still retained this machine name. That's the point that I would like it to populated the location with our domain after either a restart or a log on.

I hope this clarifies things and thatnks for your help!!

Hi,
i think i understand you right at the first time (or it's maybe a problem with my bad english). I mean under Advanced -> Windows -> the Field "From". We had an equal problem, but we only use the novell clients on a few machines (running novell client 4.7) and only to map a novell-share (with "workstation only" ticked). After the registry-key the field always shows our domain no matter if i lockout or reboot.
I know this isn't helping you, but i have a good link for you with all registry entries for the novell client:
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure with the link you sent I'll find all I need.

Thanks again!
