Hi,

We have an NT 4.0 domain with a few win2k member servers. All our domain controllers are still nt 4.0 (until tomorrow)
One of our member servers is a win2k terminal server, with Citrix Metaframe XP on it.

My understanding of the licensing services of a win2k terminal server, is that the licensing can be run on the terminal server, as long as there are no win2k DCs on your network. However, once a win2k DC is added, the licensing functions must be switched.

Is this true? Are there any more impacts to adding a win2k DC that I should know about before tomorrow (other then the obvious one, likes AD)???

Thanks,
Sharyn

This is true. In a workgroup scenerio or Windows NT4 Domain, The Domain License server (I assume you are using the license server in this fshion). Can be installed on any Windows 2000 Server. Once you migrate to a Windows 2000 Active Directory Domain, The Domain License Server must be on one of the DC's. It is best to do one of two things in your case.
1-Promote your Windows 2000 Server to a DC when you migrate to a 2000 Domain.

2-Remove license server and reintall it on one of the DC's after migration.

Hope this helps. James Collins

How do I remove it?

Is it in administrative tools somewhere?

Guess I could go look, huh :)

Thanks!

Is Deactiving the server (taken directly from screen on win2k ts) the same an uninstalling the removing the license server?

Sharyn

Deactivate the License Server. Then go to control panel and then to Add/Remove Windows Components and remove it there. This works. I have done it. Good luck. James Collins
