Have added a "ClientPak" to my Solaris/Unix based Networker 7.1.2 server so that I might attempt to backup a Win2K client.

I have created a user on the client machine and put that user in the group 'Backup Operators', but the Win2K is in a snit and doesn't think that is good enough.

When trying to initiate a backup of the client from the server, I get this in my daemon.log file:

Code:
02/23/05 23:22:05 nsrd: savegroup info: goony:C:\: No full backups of this save set were found in the media database; performing a full backup

goony:C:\: No full backups of this save set were found in the media database; performing a full backup

* goony:C:\ save: [COLOR=red][b]SYSTEM error: Permission denied, user 'legato' on 'goony' does not have 'Backup local data' privilege.[/b][/color]

The user 'legato' and proper password are part of the client profile on the server.

I've searched through all of the various security policies and I cannot find 'Backup local data' at all. There is one called "Back Up Files and Directories" under "User Rights Assignments" and group "Backup Operators" is already listed, but I added the specific user anyway - still no go.

Any ideas on what item in the bizarro Win2K "security" <cough, hack> maze is missing? Maybe if Legato came in through port 80 into the IE browser with some trick hack it would have full, unlimited access to all of the files (sorry, couldn't resist). [tongue]

Thanks,

Goony

I am pretty sure that you did not logon as local administrator on the client when you installed the software. NW usually uses the system account and therefore usually has all rights to all files. If this is not the case, then of course it can only access a cetratin set of files. This is what the program seems to claim about the user legato.

BTW - the rights it is claiming are within the User Group resource.

Bingo! I was using an account with privs, but not the account named 'Administrator'.

I will deinstall, login properly, then re-install to see if that fixes it.

Thanks!
