Win2K Automatically Logs on as Administrator...Help!

Guys,

I have a user whose Win2K automatically logs on as Administrator. So, what so far she was doing is, log off administrator and then press, ctrl+alt+del, then it shows security box -> Log on as her account.
It also means, when boot up, the Win2K doesn't pop up Security Dialogu box - "Please press Crtl + Alt + Del to log on" message.

It is Domain environment.

Anybody knows a solution?

Hi,

can u please check one entry in the registry or in the Domain securitry policy .
The entry is Disable CTRL+DEL+ALT requirement for LOgon.
If the policy is enabled or not. Do not define policy for that.

I just checked my registry for a test, and the key value has three(except default)

- DisplayName : REG_SZ : Disable CTRL+ALT+DEL requirement for log on.
-DisplayType : REG_DWORD : 0x00000000(0)
-ValueType : REG_DWORD : 0x00000000(4).

What i want to say is, there is discription "Disable Ctrl.....", but mine has no problem. You mean, check the value and Displaytype?

Anyhow, i will check it on monday in my user's system.

The machine must be setup for automatic logon - so just get hold of tweakui -

http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp

- and disable this - logon tab.

Found the Rootcause !!!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

the reg contents were, kind of messed-up.

there was a Autoadminlogon key and it was 1.
and others were a lot different. but after changing this to 0(deleting would be ok. because I don't have this key), the problem, Resolved!!!

Im not positive its been awhile, but I think if you go to control panel and use the user Users and Password tool it has a option somwere in there to allways ask for a password. Unless you allready set it this way in the beging.

doldol: You should delete the string value "DefaultPassword" which is in the same key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon). It must also be present for autologon, and it is visible to ANYONE who can enter the registry. That means they can see your admin password.

Wirdo, it was grayed out. because it follows Domain policy.

OnlineIT, i found the defaultpassowrd key has nothing.
you mean, even it is blank, somebody could see that?
If it really needs to delete the key, at the time, i will contact to the user.

If your admin password is a blank password, then that is what shows up in the DefaultPassword string value. If you had some other password, it would have shown up there. But don't worry, if you change your admin password, the registry will not show the change.

I was just thinking that if it was like a domain admin that was auto-logging in, you surely wouldn't want someone to even have a chance to see the password.
