Hi.
We have an NT4.0 network /domain is NT4.0 too/ with an NT4.0 PDC and BDC. There is Win2000 Prof on my machine.
I have no local admin rights, 'cause when i would like to add myself to local admin group, i don't see our Domain Users list.
How can i put myself (DOMAIN\Domainuser) into the local admin group ?

Thx
Lolka

Ps: sorry if this question was in this list, i did not find.

Yes you can...
As long as you log in locally as a Admin first.
Then you add youself to the local admin group.
Log out and log in to the Domain.

This should slove your problem

Note:
By doing this you only get local admin rights and not domian admin rights.

Eh, you don't understand.
I can't see my domain user name in the users list, 'casue win2k can't see the nt4 domain users list. i can't change the domain... i see only my computer names in the domain list, and the combobox is not enabled to change...

This is why i can't add myself to Local admins.

Lolka

ps: my domain usernam is: domain\user
my local admin name is: computername\admin

When you are at the screen where you would normally browse your domain for users to add to the membership of your local group, instead of actually seeing the users in your domain listed and choosing one from there, you can actually just type the domain\username that you want added to the local group.

So:
1) Manage Computer -> Local Users and Groups -> Admin group
2) Click Add
3) Here's where things have been failing for you. At this point ignore the list on the top half of the screen and instead type 'domain\user' in the space below.
4) Click 'OK'.

That should do it. Let us know if that doesn't work, and we will then try and verify that your system is properly a member of the domain, which I should think it would be if you are able to log on with your domain account. ShackDaddy

I had this exact scenario...then I realized I hadn't added the computer to the domain. As soon as I added the computer to the domain I was able to add my domain account to the local admin group. Then the domain showed up in the "look in" drop down menu.

Good luck

I agree with wattsup - have you definately added the W2K machine into your domain? -----------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part.
I took it for granted that you already added the machine to the domain.
After all that is the first thing you do when you add a machine to an NT 4 Network/Domain.

Good luck
