Win2000 stops at setup window

I reformated the hard drive to reinstall the OS. When the installation gets to Starting Windows (blue screen, right after loading files in memory)it just stops. I have two separate copies of Win 2000 on disk. Neither one of then will install past that point. Any suggestions?

Was there a problem that required you to format the hard drive or did you just desire a fresh install? I had a similar problem after a workstation would lock up during the windows 2000 splash screen. I tried to repair the installation and experienced the same problem you described. I formated the hard drive and it would still lock up at the Starting Windows screen when I tried to reinstall. I threw every diagnostic I could at the hardware but no problems were detected. I replaced the mainboard and that solved the problem.
