Win2000 Server backup problem

Hi. We use Microsoft backup to backup certain files on our server to 2 removable drives that are installed. The size of the files that are being backed up is about 4GB. Sometimes the backup will start and the estimated time will start increasing and not decreasing when this happens it always takes longer to back up (about 15 minutes longer). The usual time it takes to do the backup (when it works right) is about 5 minutes. Any body had this problem? Or any suggestions?

Any suggestions or comments will be warmly welcomed.
