SP2 installed Outlook Express V6.x and gave it priority over my Outlook 2000 Which I paid for and WANT to use. How to KILL and burn Outlook Express. I used to be able to RT. click in Windows Explorer and send mail. Now it calls Outlook Express.

Start/Set Program Access and Defaults/Custom and turn off access to OE.

I would think you can go back in Internet explorer Options and change your default Mail client, to whatever you want to use.

Did you already try that ?

After the game ,the king and the pawn , both go in the same box.

Tbiller--Tim, sorry, what are you talking about. Although problem is fixed, this can be a powerfull tool.

mobajwa:
Thanks, made me feel real small. I knew that--really....
It fixed my problem with the mail program.

Can I push my luck? I also used to rt. click, on a .jpg, with Windows Explorer, and I would get he option to resize the photograph on the fly, w/o saving it. Do you know what I am talking about?

Thanks for such a fast response.

Sounds a bit like some third party program you might have installed at some time? Do you have the "Preview" option when you right-click an image file?

Or maybe you are referring to "Enable Automatic Image Resizing" from IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced/ Multimedia?

Specifies that you want Internet Explorer to automatically resize large images so that they fit in the browser window.

A right-click resize option is something I have never seen in XP as a stand alone option in Explorer.

Tom.

The Set Program Access and Defaults option is installed with SP2 (and may have been with SP1, I don't recall) and allows you to change the default choice for web browsers, email clients, media players to those other than supplied by MS as part of Windows.

It should be on your Start Menu.

Ok .. who do i think, everyone here is talking about something else !!! LOL..

So u got the email fixed and now you want to know more about the right click issue.
I would agree with linney. It sounds like a third party application which you installed, which added the resizing option to your right click.

You can start my answering these questions.
Did u have that right click option right from the start , since you first got your machine or installed windows ?

If not than what software did you install for picture editing . I personally have ACDsee,Photoshop, fireworks installed on my machine and these prograsm dont add the right click option in windows explorer.

So the bottom line is that you installed some third part program ( most probably some image editing software ) which added that option in the windows explorer, and then you uninstalled or got rid of that program which took the right click option away too !

what do you think ?

I do not remember if I had this option when I first installed windows. This current machine (Asus mb.), p4 3ghz, 1gb ram, (yea I'm proud of it) started 5-7 years ago--grew from windows 3.x (dos?). I kept doing disk copies and moved it from platform to platform—hardware while updating windows. Retrospect, and your help, tells me it must be a coincidence, and not XP. XP was a cool update to do, since all the drivers were “fixed” with the second repair option for the install when I changed the mb.

This is such a useful function (and I thought simple to get back), and should be popular. Rt. click, while viewing using Internet Windows Explorer thumbnails, and select "send to a mail recipient, and a window would pop-up". A file of 500kb (.jpg) can be resized to small (40kb), med, large, or no change, with one ckick. I remember a window pop up with boxes to check. I know it worked on this machine 6 months ago. What changed? I don't know. Can't remember.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements Version 3x; Paint Shop Pro Version 7x; and a bundle that came with my Epson scanner. I don’t believe this changed from 6 months ago. Cannon import and utilities (hmmm. I did remove that).

Power Toys does offer simple, free, resize utility, but it must be saved to the HDD. Maybe not a big deal, but it takes time, must be deleted.

OK. I guess I removed something. If the answer is not obvious, then it must be me……

Oh, Tim. I guess it is too hard for me. I’m just net seeing it. Start menus differ a lot. I can’t find it. If you get the properties of the shortcut, or program, that would help me get to it. Oh well. Enough of this.

Thanks for your both of your time—again.

Start -> Set Program Access and Defaults

Using the Windows XP Start Menu...

It would be on the right side of the menu, below My Computer and Control Panel.

If you have the Windows XP Start Menu set to Classic, you will not see this.

mobajwa,
