Hi,
I will apologise before I start as this is unavoidably a long one.
Have rebuilt a machine with new motherboard, processor, memory & video card running dual screen.
Processor temp max 45 Deg C & memory passed all tests which were run over night.
Machine dual boots Windows 2000 Professional SP3 (upgraded from SP2 after install) on disc 0 drive C: & Windows XP Professional SP2 (installed as SP2 not upgraded after install) on disc 1 drive D:. Drives 2, 3, 4, & 5 also installed plus the CD & DVD. Machine used for editing videos & CAD hence large hard drive capacity.
2K works perfectly with no problems.
XP started to play up, mouse freezing in on window needing a reboot tried different video drivers with no change. Then machine began to stop with BSOD but no file or driver listed as at fault. Then had BSOD with the following error message.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Stop 0X000000D1 (0X00000014, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0XB99A29C6
CDFS.SYS – Address B99A29C6 base at B99A1000 date stamp 41107EB1
Great now I thought now I have the culprit. Renamed CDFS.SYS and XP replaced it with new version but BSOD still happened occasionally and I now realised it was when I used the CD or DVD drive.
Concluded that original copy of CDFS.SY must be corrupt and decided to do a repair to replace the system files.
Backed up registry to different drive & made a copy of Docs & Settings to same drive.
Ran XP repair with Drives 2, 3, 4, & 5 disabled which went badly wrong. XP decided that the drive with XP in it was G: not D: (I had made further partitions on drive 0 & 1 after installing 2K & XP). Decided to continue believing that reinstalling the registry would correct this – WILL IT?
Install then failed with a BSOD 29 minutes away from completion at the point of installing Drivers after the auto reboot with the following error codes.
0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0X804F162C – these three are always the same but the next two change every time I try to running repair. Three versions noted V1 - 0XF7A63AC, 0XF7A63788, V2 – 0XF7A73A8C, 0XF7A73788 & V3 – 0XF7963ABC, 0XF7963788
Tried Safe Start but on booting this tries to run setup again & fails.
Not tried Recovery Console as I do not know how to use it or what to do with it.
Note XP program CD sucessfully created a working system with no system files problems before hardware upgrade and using same drives & SCSI cards as installed now.
Regards Barry
