Ever since installing XP, i have not been able to access Yahoo Games. I am pretty sure that it is the new operating system (only one day old) that is causing the problem. I've tried to install the critical update package 1 from MSN update, but get the error that my security key is invalid (read the questions on this and have an idea on how to fix it).

Granted, I am a novice in many ways, but still, every other area of the internet is fine....only Yahoo Games will not load....all Java-related stuff is activated, IE is updated to 6.0 with all updates I could find, installed Sun Microsystem's Java Machine - to no avail. Tried accessing the games site this morning on my machine - error, tried 30 min later on office computer (win '95) and got through no problem. That's why i think it's XP (or at least my version of XP).

Please don't insuate that i'm using pirated software, I paid entirely too much for this operating system to doubt the validity of my key (

Thanks for any help you can give me, I'm feel very clueless right now (

Try turning off the XP firewall. On the properties page for your Network connection, click the advanced tab and uncheck the Internet Connection Firewall box.

pdxphx,
Thanks for the quick response,

That firewall is not activated....but my Sygate Personal Firewall Pro is....but even when set an advance rule to allow all connections on port 1109 (the one Yahoo games uses) it did not help, nor did "allow all internet traffic"

any more ideas? I know it could be just a problem with Yahoo server, but then again, yahoo said there were over 100,000 ppl playing pool at the time. (Pool and Literati are the only games i play, but last night, i could not play any of the games)

Thanks to all,

well, not sure if I "completely disabled it", I did set the security level to "allow all traffic" and assumed that it would do just that.

Sygate has the ability to block programs going to sites, and certain sites...I've seen before that if you don't click on the right button, trying to go to a specific site will be ineffective....I think if you right click on the icon in the corner and either disable or exit....if not, go into the services and find the Sygate service and stop it from there. After that, try going ot Yahoo games

Thank you, will try that, though it worries me that I may not be able to use my firewall ( Will post results tonight after i get home and try it (i'm at work right now lol)

If that is the case, there is a way to fix it through the Sygate GUI...I just haven't seen it enough to help you out with that.

I did click on something last night that told me i needed a more upadted verision of MS Virtual Machine....so I spent hours looking ofr one, and thought i had found the right one, but nothing changed.

I just wonder why it's only that one site that will not load, i tried secure sites, other java sites, email sites, ftp sites.....everything else worked fine....just not Yahoo Games (and every other site within Yahoo worked) so it must be something Java-related or maybe even port related, but like i said, i told Sygate to allow all connections.

!!!! OH, i also have Sygate verifiying all .DLL's......could that cause the disconnect?

Yeah....that's the part where you have to make sure you click the right button
