I have a small network. Running a few XP PRO and a win
2000 server. We do not always use the server. It is some
times shut off. when the server is down we get a lot of
lockups on the xp boxes. This has drove me nuts. I have
replace a whole new box and reinstall xp many of times.
I thinks I found the problem but do not know how to fix
it. I have narrow it down to 2 event ID's

Can someone plese help
I dont wont to always have the server running, There is
really know need for it all the time

Thanks Mark

"of" = "off"

TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, DNS, uncheck 'Register' .etc at the bottom.

If the server is listed in the list of DNS addresses, you will have to live with the error messages.

Thanks,I will give it a try. But why would it lock up the system? I have to do a hard shut down.

Thanks Mark

Do you have any older Win9x boxes on the next work? If so you may have a sort of WINS/DSN conflict. (which is was I had)

try making you DNS ask WINS if it can not find what it's looking for.
