Hi,

I just got a new Dell Dimension 9100 and I am trying to install WIN XP Pro on it. But when windows ask to press Enter to install, the keyboard does not work.
This is a USB only keyboard system.

Windows XP does not recognize the keyboard during the installation?! Help plz appreciated.

Check to be sure that USB is enabled in the BIOS. This may require you to use another keyboard.

You could purchase a USB to PS2 adapter and plug the keyboard in the keyboard PS2 port.

Computers are like a bag of hammers, they won't do a damn thing until you pick it up and SMASH something with it!!

like scottew mentioned, there is a setting within the BIOS setup, called usually, USB LEGACY SUPPORT, make sure this is enabled, aswell as all the USB PORTS...

otherwise you may have to get a hold of a PS/2 Keyboard or converter...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

There is an assumption by several people in this thread...the PC has a PS2 port.

A couple of weeks ago, I thought I had lost my marbles...after I finished installing software on a new (refurbished) PC from Dell, I disconnected it from my USB KVM, and proceeded to install, err tried to install the PC on someone's desk. After looking for the PS2 for a few minutes, I went back to the keyboard/mouse storage box, and found the USB keyboard which came with the PC.

This one didn't have a single PS2 port on it. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Can't see any downside to USB only, and can see a few postives (no little pins to bend.)

On the origonal topic, I didn't have any trouble installing XP on the box, but sometimes I do have to wait a few seconds when switching betwen PC's (on the USB KVM) or booting up a PC that has not been connected to USB keyboard or mouse before. After a few seconds, keyboard and mouse start working. And of course, as previously pointed out, Legacy USB probably has to be enabled.
