I'm trying to upgrade the firmare on this switch. When I go to the ip in a browser I get my menu of option and one is the CMS. So I click on it and it looks like it's trying to load a java applet, but it never does. Is anyone else using an xp machine to connect to these switches for configuration successfully? If so, how please?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

You were born an original. Don't die a copy!

Don't know if you anything aboujt cisco IOS but you can hook up your serial port to the console port on the switch and configure it thru the CLI .

Yeah, that's how I've done it in the past, was just hoping to do it remotely for once.

go to java.com and download the latest sofware for XP. Sounds like a pc problem instead of a switch issue.
Otherwise try via telnet if you want to do it remote.

CCNA, CCNP..partly ;)

Been there, done that, last week actually.

I have found that I can't download whatever is the default Java, I keep a copy of JRE 1.3.1 around, and it works for me.

F.Y.I., it's nice to use the Java window to update the firmware, but remember, you will need a working TFTP, and with 4 meg 2900's (8.11.SA6, I think), I haven't been succesful using the Java app. With the 8 meg 2900's, I was able to update the firmware using the Java window, but only if the firmware on board is something recent (sorry, I forget the cutoff point.)

If you have some Java already installed, you might try uninistalling the current version, reboot, then install 1.3.1.

Good luck, Java for 2900's is a major pain in the rear, IMNERHO.

I would disable your windows firewall.
