Hey,

I dont know if this is the right forum for this but im running Windows XP Pro (sp1) and IE 6 (all updates). I really like having the status bar displayed when i am using IE but on some sites it dissapears, and some times i have to go to view > Status bar to get it on. Is there anything i can do that would enable me to have the status bar displayed when using IE all the time? Any help on this is appreciated.

Aaron

Sometimes this is a result of installing so many updates. I remember a friend having a similar problem, so try this:

Open Windows Explorer, uncheck View > Status Bar, then go to Tools > Folder Options > View > then click the "Apply to all folders" button. Next reboot your computer, then do the same and then put a tick beside "Apply to all folders" then reboot and see if it fixes it.

Also, some people deliberately write JavaScript in the webpages that hide the status bar and other toolbars, so it may not be a problem, but rather the pages you are viewing are deliberately turning not showing the status bar.

Ok guys, fixed it

Apparently this is an issue if you open a new window the status bar is no longer there even if it was in the other window.

The fix is:

Start one window of IE. Click view then click status bar (so status bar has a tick next to it). Hold Ctrl while clicking the x in the upper right hand corner of the window (to close the application). Now open My Computer and select view then status bar (again so status bar has a tick next to it). Then still in the my computer window click tools > folder options and select the view tab. Click apply to all folders and click ok to the dialog displayed. Then close My Computer.

Now go to start > run > regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Select the "Show_StatusBar" entry the go to the Edit menu and select Permissions... click Advanced in the permissions window, find and select your user name from the list displayed and click the edit button. Put a check next to 'Set Value' in the Deny column.

After all this you should have the status bar displayed at all times even if you open a new window
