on monday I installed a patch for win98 by mistake on an NT machine. Today Wednesday, the shipping department who use the NT machine called me over and told me there's something wrong with the computer. I checked it out and what happens is it loads windows, but then it freezes. The machine wasn't turned off since friday. could the win98 patch that I installed be causing the problem? If so, why is it acting up two days after I've installed it? Also if that is my problem, how do I uninstall the patch or get winNT to work correctly again?

Thank You

what if you use 'last known good configuration' option (press spacebar during boot when prompted to get menu for this).

You said it yourself. The machine wasn't turned off until friday. Thats why there was a delay in the problem manifesting itself. Yeah you can try last known good. It may help. ________________________________________

last known good configuration solved it. But to clarify SgtB, the system was shutdown on friday, the next monday, I installed the patch and today wednesday they found the error. so it was running for two days prior to today. Would it still take two days for the problem to arise?

Thanks all

Umm... will a 98 patch even GO on a NT machine?

Kjonnn - I believe NT will usually tell you that it doesn't like it, but you never know.

JCrou82 - Yes it could take several days for the problem to show up. W/o knowing every single detail though, I'd be hard pressed to tell you why. Next time just make sure the patch is for NT. :-) ________________________________________

That is definately a lesson well learned. It gave me a quick scare. And as for the patch I installed, I never got a message that said it wasn't for NT. oh well, problem solved. Thank you all
